How was your summer? Did you head to a christian summer camp or festival? For many of us, these times to connect with other young christians to learn more about God and go deeper with him are foundational moments in our faith. And the same is true not just in the uk, but for young Christians around the world.
In a small city in Central Java, Indonesia, young Christians can often face bullying and lack support at school. In a majority Muslim context, these young people can feel isolated and discouraged. So to support and equip them, over summer, Open Doors local partners gathered 80 young people from three church denominations over a few days for a special camp.
The young people spent time worshipping God, learning from the Bible and doing fun activities that deepened their faith. Through puzzles, group discussions, and teaching sessions on the book of Daniel, the youth explored how they could be inspired to be more courageous in their own walk with Jesus.
Bella, one of the participants, shared, “Through this camp, we could be united with other young people in this town, even though we are a minority.” Her words reflected the power of fellowship in a challenging environment.
For Kezia, the camp was both fun and meaningful. “This camp was exciting and enjoyable. I hope camps like this can be held more often in this town. I felt very blessed and gained many new friends who are also believers,” she said.
Dika’s experience showed an amazing transformation. “When I first heard about this camp, I was apathetic. I would say, ‘What kind of camp is this again?’ But after joining the activities, I found them very interesting, not boring, and most importantly I learned a lot about God’s Word, which strengthened my faith.”
Each participant received some resources to take home, a 365-day devotional, and a book filled with powerful stories from the persecuted church.
As the camp ended, the young people returned home not just encouraged but empowered. In a city where their faith is often tested, they left with a renewed sense of mission—ready to live boldly, support one another, and grow as disciples and leaders for Christ.
Please pray for them as they settle back into school terms and normal routines. Prayer points below.
Thank God for these young people and the leaders that put on these camps
That they will remain united despite being from different churches and become strong witnesses for Christ.
That these 80 young people continue to grow deeper in their faith, living boldly for Jesus
