WRITE TO: PASTOR YANG IN MYANMAR

Pastor Yang* is often exhausted and scared. He and his young family in Myanmar have had to grab what they can and flee – not once, not twice, but many times.

“We have had to live amidst the sounds of gunfire and bomb explosions,” he says. “All this deeply traumatises my wife. My children fear the loud noises. As a husband and a father, sometimes I feel helpless that I cannot make my own family feel safe.”

The pastor was overjoyed when he encountered the support of Open Doors partners after his family’s most recent displacement. “They are so passionate to serve persecuted believers like me,” he says. “I soon partnered with them in reaching out to the displaced believers.”

“Despite feeling desperate and hopeless at times, we know God is with us,” he continues. “He has kept us safe until now, and we are still able to serve Him. Our family prays together every night, asking God to give us the strength to go through this Red Sea in our lives. We recite Psalm 23 before we go to bed.”

There is another way you can show Pastor Yang that God is with him and his family – and that’s by writing to him! It would mean so much to him to receive your message of encouragement.

• Please be encouraging and feel free to include one or two Bible verses
• Show sensitivity; please do not dwell on the recipient’s plight, or share about the blessings of life in your country or your own struggles.

• Do not mention other religions
• Do not refer to Israel, even when using scripture
• Do not criticise religions, religious extremists, governments, judicial systems or political leaders
• Do not send money or make proposals to help
• You can disclose your name and the country you live in, but do not provide your full name or full address
• Do not send photographs of yourselves or anyone else.
