KYRGYZSTAN: MAHRI NEEDS OUR PRAYERS

MAHRI* IS 24 and from a Uyghur Muslim familY IN Kyrgyzstan. HER DAD DIED WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG and so she was raised By her mum.

Even though the wider family were Muslims, Mahri’s Mum started going to a house church, and she’d take Mahri with her. Mahri and her Mum chose to leave Islam to follow Jesus, but this decision was met with anger and disapproval from their relatives. Despite their efforts, Mahri and her Mum kept going to church, but this meant the wider family refused to support or help Mahri and her Mum. This made life tough as after her Dad’s death, money was tight.

Sadly, around five years ago, Mahri’s Mum passed away, which meant Mahri had to go and live with an Aunt. In this new home, Mahri has been forbidden from going to church or having any connection with other Christians. The wider family are actively trying to get Mahri to reject her Christian faith. Every time she leaves the house, Mahri faces a barrage of questions over where she is going and who with. She’s been forbidden from continuing her studies and her Aunt even checks her phone to see who she has been communicating with.

This is the situation Mahri has faced for the last five years. Recently, she managed to get to the house church and shared her situation. She’s obviously exhausted, nervous and frustrated. Please pray with us for Mahri, for her Aunt and wider family and that she would know God’s love, real freedom and be able to continue her studies.
